Capstone Year
Seattle 35mm Photo Study, 2025. During our winter trip to Seattle for Christopher Domin’s Metaphysics of Light research and inquiry capstone, I brought my 35mm film camera and shot four rolls of film. My goal was to explore how light moves through the city during the colder months and how that might inform my architectural work. Using film allowed me to slow down and observe the texture of the light, the ground, and the buildings around me. I was surprised by how much light was present despite the overcast skies. The soft, diffused light of January brought out the industrial, moss-covered, and rusted character of Seattle. Capturing these moments helped ground my thinking and gave me a stronger sense of how light might shape space in my capstone project. Seattle Sketches, 2025. For Christopher Domin’s Metaphysics of Light research and inquiry capstone, the class traveled to Seattle. It was cold during our visit, but I loved the trees and the lush greenery throughout the city. I had a great time with my classmates exploring neighborhoods, investigating potential sites for our projects, and getting a feel for what building in Seattle might be like. I chose a picturesque site on a hill next to the Carl S. English Botanical Gardens at the Chittenden Locks. One night, by complete chance, we stepped into a jazz bar where I ran into my old friend Joan, who happened to be playing the drums there. It was a wonderful and unexpected moment.
