Custom Painted Curtains, 2026. My new apartment was lacking some curtains so I used the same techniques I had learnt while doing the multi story COHABS mural to paint on some drop cloth canvas. I found an alleyway with smooth concrete as my easel and used bird scooters as canvas pins to hold down the painting surface during the session due to heavy winds that day. The concrete underneath left an interesting texture on the markers making them appear less sharp and more jagged which was cool. After the paint dry I used a grommeting machine to pinch grommets into the top of the canvases and then strung the whole assembling across the windows using paracord and wall mounted metal hooks. I even had to teach myself a new knot on YouTube and I get the paracord to be stretched taught which was very fun. I absolutely love how this experiment came out. The subject matter and characters were a mix of things I have been seeing around my neighborhood and old motifs. I absolutely abhor plastic hanging louvre blinds so it was necessary to replace them with something much more beautiful, personal and frankly crude/ raw. There is much more I could write about regarding treating your living space as an unfinished experimental design project, every time I look at these curtains and see the sunlight streaming through it makes me smile.
